Dear Inquiring Student,
Thank you for your interest in the Planning Degree Program at the University of Arizona. We want you to have as much information as you think you might need in making the important decision on the planning program that best fits your goals. We hope that you will find our program the perfect one for you.
We are quite proud of our accredited program. We offer students the opportunity to select among three broad areas of concentration: Environmental/Healthy Cities Planning, International/Borderlands Planning, and Land Use & Community Development. As you have seen in our materials, these concentrations offer a variety of choices in their focus. We are one of the few planning programs in the nation that has an area of concentration in international planning. By including borderlands in that concentration, the program gives students opportunities to work on international borders and within American Indian Reservations. The Planning Program offers many opportunities through the course of study to apply what you are learning. A Master’s degree in Planning is a professional degree and our program strives to help you step confidently into the profession.
The faculty is distinguished in teaching, research, and practice, and are closely tied to the planning profession through consulting and participation in professional organizations. Their expertise ranges from transportation to sustainable development. The faculty members are internationally and nationally recognized for their research and public outreach efforts. In addition, all the faculty value working with students and helping to guide them into their professional careers.
Students are welcomed into our program by the Graduate Planning Society, which is the student organization in the Planning Program. This group has many social events for its members and also organizes the travel and accommodations for its membership to attend state and national conferences. These students will be your colleagues throughout your professional careers, so the friendships made at the University of Arizona will often be ones you keep a lifetime.
We urge you to consider the Planning Degree Program at the University of Arizona. It provides a multitude of opportunities for your professional development in a wonderful environment. Students from across the United States and around the world are seeking admittance into the program now. We hope that you are among them.
We appreciate your interest in the Planning Degree Program and extend our best wishes in finding the program that is right for you!
Sincerely,
Paul Robbins, Ph.D.
